In January 2010, Andy Furgeson created the Red Yarn blog to document his "Lomax-a-Day" project. Inspired by the Artclash Collective's "Fun-a-Day," in which artists pledge to create a piece of art each day for the month of January, Andy decided to learn, record, and write a brief analysis of one song a day out of Alan Lomax's 1960 "Folk Songs of North America" anthology.
This exploration led Andy down many weird and winding paths, entangling him in the thick web of American folk music. It helped spawn the Red Yarn Puppet Band and inspired his work as a teaching artist.
You can listen to and read the results on this very blog, in the January 2010 archives.
